It is an open air museum, the holy cave, the way off the cross,… there are several walking paths of different lengths, caves, hermitages and chapels disseminated over the mountain and spectacular scenic beauty. It also houses a museum with a valuable collection of artistic works from an important collection of pieces representing the archaeology of the Bible lands, an important collection of paintings by old masters from the 13th to the 18th century, a permanent exhibition on the history of the image of Our Lady of Montserrat, even a modern painting and sculpture collection containing works by Picasso or Dali along with one of the best collections of Catalan Modernist and French Impressionist paintings in Catalonia.
An ideal place to enjoy your free time and explore, even railway enthusiasts will discover the 2 funiculars down to the Holy cave or up to Saint John that carries visitors up to the mountains above the monastery 1.000m above sea level (3.280 feet), not to mention the rack-railway, one of the two existing in Spain
